Letter written on April 9, 1838, by Jeremiah B. Day, President of Yale, to Holmes. Day noted that he was enclosing a certificate, which was a general recommendation of the character of Holmes. The recommendation is also endorsed by Benjamin Silliman, professor of chemistry and natural history at Yale.
